Is there a max limit of channels per server answeroverflow can index?

No limit have as many as you’d want
I’d recommend keeping it to only forum / thread only channels though

#contributing is an example of a thread only channel, this channel is a forum channel
Regular chat channels while they can be indexed, we don’t make web pages for them as it results in a lot of junk pages making good pages not get indexed
They’ll show up in search on answer overflow though
Why do you not index #contributing channel, although it is a thread channel?
Is it possible to have web pages for regular chat channels? Basically I am thinking to have a indexable mirror of a complete server, except for a few channels. If we have it on our domain, it should not affect AO main site.

Making a 1:1 mirror isn’t really a goal of answer overflow so it’s not something I’d probably put more dev time into

But there might be AO users interested in this. Have you considered to do a poll on this in AO community? In case I decide to contribute this, is it difficult to add or it is a matter of turning a switch on?
What about this channel https://www.answeroverflow.com/c/521092042781229087/521092043288608781 ? It is not a forum or thread channel, but it has separate page? Was it possible earlier and later disabled, because I see that this channel is not uptodaye on AO?

Haven’t polled the community for it but I could do that - most communities only index forum / threaded channels
What’s the goal of having a 1:1 mirror, is it for people to be able to see content that you link them without signing in, google to crawl it, etc?

It is actually a bit confusing, as you do not have a context of all conversation.
To show how active you community is. Also, within a lot of chit chat there can be some really useful gems.
Zulip has public chat channels. For example - https://rust-lang.zulipchat.com/ Here an article about their release - https://blog.zulip.com/2022/05/05/public-access-option/ Public chat channels can be quite handy for open communities.
Misc thoughts:
- yes we should do a better job of supporting regular text channels - implementation wise, it should act like Discord does where you can infinite scroll up and down
- linking to /m/id should show you N messages above and below the target id so you know to scroll
- on the community page it should be infinite scroll
- those pages should be marked as no follow no crawl from linking pages, but should be allowed to be crawled in general
Aside from the infinite scroll none of that is too tricky to implement, it’s not a huge priority we’ve got a few other more asked for things like analytics, embeds, and forum tag support but it’ll be better supported in the future
