@everyone Hey! Checking in to provide some status updates about the project and future plans
Over the past year, while we've shipped some nice new features like improved styling, user pages, and a new dashboard
Progress has been a bit slower than I would've liked, for some background I work full time and build Answer Overflow on the side - My last job was taking up a lot of my energy leaving me not much left to build with, I've recently swapped jobs and have gotten a lot of my energy back and am looking forward to building out more of Answer Overflow
So, what's next? Well, if you've read recent Discord announcements you've seen that Discord are shifting their focus back to small group chats, which I think is doing a disservice to all of the big communities that live on Discord
Answer Overflow is my bet against that Discord is just for small group chats, and I'm going to keep putting out features that make it easier to run your server and get content discovered
Next up for features we've planning on shipping are:
- Improving the onboarding for new users
- Expanding search to search servers, see multiple results, and have more advanced filters
- Better dashboard tools for content management to have more control around what content your community shares
- Customizable styling for custom domain sites so they can use brand colors
- Showing recent server announcements on result pages
Along with that, we're going to be making a lot of improvements to the codebase to make it self hostable & easier to contribute to (join us in #contributing!)
